Franco Albini

Architect, urban planner and furniture designer, Franco Albini began his career working for the Ponti and Lancia design studios after receiving a degree in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1929. From here, the Italian played a key role in the rationalist movement, fuelled by his work for Casabella, and founded his own practice in 1931 where he took on the challenge of workers’ housing. A long term collaboration with Italian brand Cassina began in the 1940s — a partnership

that resulted in the production of a series of chairs that soon came to define Albini's signature style. A heavy concentration of urban development and building projects by Albini are located in the Milan and Genoa areas and have been recognised with a multitude of prizes, including the Olivetti Award for Architecture, the Gran Premio Nazionale La Rinascente-Compasso d’Oro, and the La Rinascente-Compasso d’Oro Award.
