Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) founded his design and architecture studio in Milan in 1947. His work as consultant for Italian manufacturer Olivetti resulted in several iconic pieces, some of which are now included in the New York MoMA collection. In 1981 he set up the Memphis project, a group of creatives central in defining postmodern design.
